Castagnola - The farmhouse

Castagnola is a charming, unspoilt 17th-century farmhouse, ideally located in the small hamlet of Castagnola in Emilia Romagna, halfway into the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano mountain range.

Emilia-Romagna is the ideal holiday destination for food lovers. Bologna, known as “La Grassa” (the fat, the plentiful, the abundant), is the capital of Emilia-Romagna and is thought by many to be the food capital of Italy. As well as a huge array of pasta dishes such as tortellini stuffed with meat, vegetables and herbs, the region is also renowned for cured Langhirano and Parma ham, Parmigiano Reggiano (genuine Parmesan), balsamic vinegar and, of course, Lambrusco (but luckily not as we know it in the UK!). The area has many great restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias that offer fantastic value for money – you will be spoilt for choice.

Guests have use of the barbecue, wood for the fire and pizza oven, terrace areas with outdoor table and chairs, sunloungers etc and a paddling pool for emergency cooling off!
However, the town of Toano, which is only 8km from the house (a 10-minute drive), has a fantastic open-air heated swimming pool (open June-Sept) with a breathtaking view. There is a small pool for children and a full-sized pool for adults. For around €6 a day per person (€4 for under 13s; €3 for under 9s; plus an additional small fee if you wish to hire a sunlounger), you can come and go as you please.
